Richard Spix

aka Rykk

Richard Spix is the master of surrealistic fractal compositions that has delighted the community at Renderosity for year and who has now come to DA for our own delight.

Rikk's compositions are exceptional in their creativity and their unbelievable beauty. And tell us about  those worlds where our dreams dwell and our fantasy expands to open the gates to heavely kingdoms.

His works remind the viewer of those psychodelic and surrealistic masterpieces from the progressive rock era by Roger Dean, Michael Dubois and Rick Griffin, but they take the viewer even deeper, into worlds where fractals create a reality that might or might not be what the viewer sees, or what the mind dreams.

But let's hear it from Rykk himself, these are excerpts from his interview at Renderosity when he was awarded artist of the month in May, 2005:

I first got into computer graphics way back in 1995-96. I started with a freeware fractal generator called "Winfract". I've done compositional fractal art on and off for brief periods since then. This period of making digital art started in Jan 2003 and has been my longest stint by far, owing mostly to the exposure and encouragement I've received here at Rendo.

I'm presently working on trying to create fractal images that would print well on canvas. Trying to use textures to give a painted look. In September, I am going to be showing my work in this year's DragonCon Art Show in Atlanta. It will be my first venture into that type of thing and I'm hoping to do well. I also want to start doing a booth at art shows in my general vicinity by this fall or next spring.

I have a few other ongoing projects that I work on when the inspiration hits. Some more scenes from Lord Of The Rings: Mordor, The Shire, The Pool of Ithlien, and The Ramparts of Osgiliath. I have to be in just the right mood to work on anything like that. Especially the Osgiliath scene because it has well over 200 layers so far (just one building is 90 layers) and images like that really tax your rig to its limits and the going is VERY slow waiting for any changes/additions to render.

I'm also working on using brighter colors for more traditionally "fractal" images such as the ones that one sees in the Fractal Universe Calendar. I use many earth tones in my work but one of my many areas for improvement is in the use and control of brighter, more saturated colorings.

I use a Dell 2.53GHz PC, with 1gb of RAM. For my images, I use Ultrafractal 3 and the freeware "flame fractal" generator, Apophysis 2.02c. Ultrafractal is my main tool because it offers the most versatility and control of colors and shapes of any of the available programs at this time. It has built into it many of the graphics editing tools and functions of high-end editors like Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro so you can do everything from a single platform.
Actually, sizing and rotating of layers in UF is a lot easier than even Photoshop, and you can use the Apophysis plugin to export flames to UF and make layered compositions with them that can also include "straight" fractal layers, as well. The background of the flames can be made transparent merely by pulling a slider control, and UF is capable of most of the useful layer merging modes found in PS and PSP.

I want to make clear the point about contributing your art to this gallery.

Even though, as we say below, we´re open for everyone, and though we are not an elitist group or community, we are a gallery devoted to DIGITAL ART WORTHY TO BE PRINTED AND EXPOSED AS A TRUE PAINTING.

So, bearing this in mind, please do not submit any art that does not fulfill this requirement. We won´t write any rejection notes, they are unfair and discouraging. We won´t qualify your art, but if it doesn´t comply with our only requirement, it won´t be shown over here! So, if after a reasonable period of time you don´t see your art in this gallery, you may want to re-consider your concept. It might be digital alright, but it may not necessarily be a painting!

OUR MISSION

Digital art these days consists mainly of skinning, illustrations and 3D renderings. Even though many of them are high quality pieces of considerable artistic value, we do not think they are conceived to be printed and exposed as paintings.

Digital galleries throughout the net are showing true digital paintings, but they restrict their acceptance to the owner´s preferences or ideas :blahblah: about what should be called art :tears:.

 We want to offer a showroom for the artist who respects his/her own art. If you regard your art as worthy of being printed and exposed in a gallery, museum or at any art lover´s wall, the doors are open here for you!

We do not restrict acceptance of art pieces to our concepts about art. Any kind of art expression is valid for us, as long as it has been made to be printed and exposed as a true painting.

DISPLAY YOUR DIGITAL PAINTINGS HERE!

If you want your art to be exposed in this gallery, please send us a mail :emailsend: with a low resolution jpg copy of your digital painting.

Preferable sizes should be smaller than 1200 pixels wide and/or length.

Please include :writersblock: the following information:

:bulletblue: Title of your digital painting.

:bulletblue: Your name and nick.

:bulletblue: A description of what you see or have expressed in your painting.

:bulletblue: Avalability of your painting:

:bulletred::bulletred:1) If it is available at :daprints:, include link.

:bulletred::bulletred: 2) If it is available at Zazzle, include link.

:bulletred::bulletred: 3) If it has been or will be printed by yourself (if applicable, specify actual printed size and how you should be contacted for price negotiations :buymyprints:).

:bulletred::bulletred: Any other, include links.

WHAT WE ARE NOT

Even though we restrict our entries to art pieces that were conceived to be printed and exposed as paintings, and though we are open  for every artist whose pieces meet this only requirement.

:bulletpurple: We are not another elitist club :yakuza: or an open for everyone community :community:. Both types exist already at DA and some of them are highly respected and succesful please, do not apply to us for membership!:please:.

:bulletpurple: We are not seeking to profit :money: on YOUR ART! It is YOU who has the right to do it!

:bulletpurple: We won´t call for contests, :trophy: tweakings, tournaments or any other competition.

:bulletpurple: We will not watch any artist or have any favourites!.

:bulletpurple: We will not comment on any artist´s art!

Nevertheless, we may invite worthy artists to show their work over here.:highfive:

Russa

Apophysis would not be the same without Russa's art. When I started using Apophysis, version one, I was struggling to find decent shapes for my collages. One day, I received a visit to my page. There was this lady who wrote that she had loved my batoruco avatar. I went to see her page and my life would never be the same after that. I was delighted, astonished, moved, by all I saw. There was a real master making the most beautiful flames I had ever (and have to date) seen!

We became friends and a few weeks later Russa sugested we should start a community, and so Apophysis was born. We have left our beloved community, but we are still making fractals. And Russa keeps delighting us all with her wonderful creations!

She was the first Apo artist who made real abstract paintings out of flames. Her creations are expressive and pationate, something that many digital pieces lose for the sake of unmoving techniques and skills.

Russa won't accept being worshiped as an artist. I knew that before I contacted her for this exhibition, and I sure understand why she almost refused my offer. And I honestly appreciate her more after that! I understand why she did not give any description or art bio, but that's not neccesary when talking about Russa and her art. Just look at her exhibition and let yourself be touched by the magic!

LINDA McCARTHY
fractalinda

Linda is a fractalist who turns a classic fractal into a masterpiece with her magic touches of texture and warm colour balance. Classic fractals are no longer common fractals when rendered by Linda. Read on for her Art AutoBio, and don´t forget to visit the rest of her magical gallery at Renderosity

I'm 57 and have lived in southern California for several years.  I am married to John, have 2 children, 4 grandchildren and our beloved dog, Bubba.  I hold some strong religious and spiritual beliefs which steady me and provide me an eternal perspective.

I have a great appreciation for beauty, no matter the venue or media.  I take great pleasure in viewing and receiving inspiration from the works of many artists and many styles of art.  I love music and literature..almost as much as digital art.

I came across my first fractal in 96 or 97, I think..when a friend sent me one he had produced.  I was blown away by it's uniqueness and beauty.   I finally downloaded a shareware program, Flarium..then tried KPT Explorer and filters.  In 2000, I became a beta tester for Xenodream..and later, that same year, I discovered Ultra Fractal..and was a goner, for sure.

Fashioning fractals into art remains an enduring passion, and I create the images in primarily two programs, Ultra Fractal and Xenodream.  I've recently re-discovered Terragen and enjoy creating landscapes, though it remains a huge challenge for me.  I gush too much, am easily impressed and love babies.

My art training is nil.  I have a difficult time drawing a decent stick figure.  I'm math phobic, but love to manipulate formulae to achieve the desired result.  I've always been fascinated with form and flow and color.  I love the paintings hanging on the wall of one of our local nursing homes and would be in heaven if those paintings were eventually willed to me.

Enjoy Linda McCarthy's exhibition:

It is not often that a digital artist is capable of achieving abstract paintings that stimulate the viewer´s own feelings and emotions.

Suzanne Burgos aka Claridad   ARTWITHIN sburgos@att.net is such an artist. Her creations are warm and emotive, yet pure in their abstract amorphism. She has sensibility and projects her own feelings to the viewer, bringing peace and joy in a way that´s not even convenient to descibe with innacurate words. And all this, most of the time, is achieved with 2D programs! Far from those 3D renderings that are more designs than paintings, she keeps herself out of such irrelevant trends to produce a magic world of her own!

For this reasons, DigitalPainters is so proud to present the work of

A Magic World of Abstract Emotions

SUZANNE BURGOS ART AUTOBIOGRAPHY

At age ten, all I wanted to do was be a fashion designer.  While the other girls were playing with their Barbie dolls, I was at work designing for Vogue, at least in my imaginary world.

As time went by and I moved into my teens, my art took a back seat to the new adventures that presented themselves.  It wasn't until I was in my last year of high school that I started to really apply myself to painting.  I found myself frustrated at not being able to create non-objective abstracts.  I felt a failure.  I could always see something there, a clear object or subject.  I would turn my abstracts into something unintended using conte crayon as a sketching medium to sketch what I saw in my tempera abstract.  My first failure was a big success to my parents.  That painting decorated a living room wall for 45 years.  It is now in my house.

Over time, there were more works of art, ranging from paintings, textile abstracts, clay sculpture, weaving art, and such, that always seemed to add to the interior decoration of the family home.  My parents saved a lot of money on interior decoration.

Then there was a lull for over twenty years, until I saw some beautiful fractal art.  The colors and designs were amazing.  I knew I had to get back to what I loved…create art.

In January of this year I began to work with fractals.  This art form seemed to stir and increase my creativity and inspiration.  I began using XenoDream right away.  I used Apophysis a little as well.  Creating art that appeared like a painting, using fractals, became my focus.

In March, I had an opportunity to buy Painter IX at a reduced price, which I could afford.  That was a significant turning point for me.  I am back doing what I love, painting, expressing myself through art.  I work from inspiration, something comes from within myself that paints the image.  Sometimes music is my inspiration, but always I must go within myself to find that spark that becomes art.  Thus, my user name, ARTWITHIN.

Now, I am embarking on still more learning as I begin working with Photoshop CS2.  What will evolve is hidden at this moment, but you can be sure I will have fun and find how it will add to my art.

In creating art, I also try to get within the picture, through contemplating the evolution of the image components, i.e., color, form, design. As I come in touch with the essence of what is being created, I lay in my emotions, meaning, a part of me in every work.

Although my art has meaning to me, I believe that the viewer offers a subjective interpretation of what they see, what touches them, what it says to them.  The viewer and I are collaborators in each painting.  It is my hope that the art I create will in some way touch the hearts and minds of all who view it.

Hope you enjoy viewing my work.

:bulletred::bulletred: Any other, include links.

We believe in your art, :cuddle: do you believe in it too?
